About this edition

Mati: martyr, in all its political significance.

Martyr is the theme of this sixth issue of Alaso. We explore the term in all its political significance, as an analytical framework to consider the lives rendered indispensable to capitalist, patriarchal and supremacist exploitation, and the forms of resistance and attachment to the land they carry. This issue also introduces our new section, Menm Nou Menm Lan, opening with the Sudanese Feminist collective Noon.
