Collection #6

“Martyr” is the theme of this sixth issue of ALASO. Commonly used to refer to a defenseless victim, we explore the term here in all its political significance. The word “martyr” is part of a lexicon inherited from liberation theology.

Do we not speak of the martyrdom of Jesus? but also from decolonial and Third World liberation movements. Our aim here is neither to sensationalize nor to fall into what Hortense Spillers describes as a “pornotropic” framework.
